Hatch Tribe Hero | Christy Saia Owenby - MOXY Company

You know those people who just shine brighter in the face of challenges? That’s Christy Owenby. We’re thrilled to introduce her as this week’s Hatch Tribe Hero. The founder of a Louisiana-based marketing biz named MOXY Company, Owenby has launched products onto Neiman Marcus shelves and received the first Mayo Clinic Social Media Network Bronze Fellowship in her state. Oh, and she advises a non-profit dedicated to female cancer survivors. And she’s a mom! We could go on about why our newest NOLA boss-crush inspires us, but here is Owenby’s moxie in her own words.

1. What is your favorite part of being an entrepreneur?

My favorite part of being an entrepreneur is helping clients overcome the challenges of marketing their business. And this means that no two days are the same, so it keeps my “job” exciting.

2. What ignited the spark in you to start your business?

Long before MOXY Company, I was bitten by the marketing bug when I found myself standing in the middle of Saks Fifth Avenue looking at my product on the shelf. At that moment, I thought to myself “If a mom from a small town in Louisiana can get her product on the shelf at Saks, I surely could help others get their businesses on the social map.” Validation came when I found my products also being sold at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and other prime retail outlets around the country.

3. What personality trait are you most proud of?

My Focus. My ability to stay focused helps me see my client’s success, often before they see it. This enables me (and my team) achieve their goals.

4. In one word characterize your life as an entrepreneur. #TallOrder

#Determined.

5. What sacrifices have you made to be a successful entrepreneur?

The biggest and most important sacrifices are those that involve giving up time with my family. I think this is something every mom-entrepreneur struggles with.

6. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Believe in yourself, you are enough.

7. How do you handle fear?

I handle fear by surrounding myself with people that will counsel me through fearful moments. After that, I’m cautious and empowered at the same time. Crazy how “fear” is often the start of our next best adventure in our business.

8. Name a women entrepreneur past or present you admire, and tell us why.

A woman entrepreneur that I admire is Laura Fuentes of MOMables.com. She is a true visionary. She wakes up daily with a purpose. From being a mom to entrepreneur, I’ve watched Laura grow to be the best mom to her children, while at the same time, growing her brand with passion, focus and drive.

9. In your opinion, what does it take to be a great boss?

The ability to communicate my vision for MOXY Company clearly so everyone on my team is on the same path to our company’s success.

10. When you’re not working, what is your favorite way to spend your free time?

There are few things I enjoy more than sitting on a rocking chair on my front porch enjoying a glass of Pinot Grigio…in true Southern Style!
