As a child, what did you think you’d do when you grew up?
I thought without a doubt I was going to be a professional dancer.  It was all I ever wanted to do and did growing up.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
COFFEE

One Word. What is your life like as an entrepreneur?
Busy

Tell us about your business & how it came to be.
I started my dance studio 17 years ago by myself with no money...at all.  I started a “traveling” dance studio that went into schools and taught on site. I hired my first employee 4 years in when I got pregnant with my son, and from there it grew beyond my wildest dreams. I now have two physical locations and the “traveling” program which serves over 26 schools in the Charleston area. I have 21 employees, 4 of which are full time and on salary.  So very grateful and with that, I was able to start my Life Coaching business a year ago. I have always been connected to people and am fueled by helping others so this has been an amazing journey.

What does a typical day in your life look like?
Morning Ritual: Coffee Journal meditate

Some mornings I get a quick am workout around 7 am like biking or some sort of cardio to get the blood flowing.

Then I work either from home or the studios and schedule meetings or clients until around noon for the favorite part of my day, my Crossfit class. Yes, I drank the Kool-Aid. Ha! Ha!

I come home shower and either I am home with my two kids after school (still always working ha ha) when I have them (I am divorced) or get back to work, meetings, studio help, clients etc.  I am lucky that most of what I do is from a computer and communicating on a computer.

Fill in the blank. I'm on a mission to…
Create connections and space that allow people to be authentic and real.  My mission started with children 17 years ago and the culture of my studio is centered around self confidence and positive body image in a nurturing atmosphere.  This mission has flowed into my coaching business and I love helping adults do the same.

Who inspires you to be the best entrepreneur you can be?
The women that I come into contact with now that are doing it...bossing, working non stop, providing, parenting, taking care of themselves, coping, and dealing with it all.  I am inspired by others success and it pushes me to be better.

How did you handle fear & doubt when it comes up?
Oh boy...ha ha Not well.  No, really I have worked VERY hard on this over the last year in particular.  I try not to think thoughts that fuel a negative outcome. I follow a module I learned from Brooke Castillo:  thoughts create feelings which create action which create results and when fear and doubt about myself kicks in I try to think of the result I do want, and focus on the thoughts I could have that support that...It’s not easy, and I do still have moments but like anything PRACTICE makes perfect.  Meditation has also helped tremendously with this.

What would you say are the top 3 skills or traits needed to be a successful business owner?
Passion, Organization, Ambition

How do you define success?
It used to be just monetary,  but as I have grown my businesses, I realize the money comes when you absolutely love what you do and everything is in a flow.  Success to me is now creating a life where I am also enjoying my life outside of work.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
To let go of thoughts that do not serve her and to always trust her gut!
